Best practices in telehealth services to mental health clients
This 3CE course satisfies state requirements for health professionals providing remote psychotherapy or other counseling services to patients with mental health issues. The course describes best practices for safe and effective teletherapy services.

Description: Telehealth services for mental health services took on a vastly increased prevalence during the 2019 -22 pandemic. Practitioners across the U.S. had to get on board quickly to safely provide continuity in the care they provided to their caseloads. Telehealth is now prevalent and likely to remain as providers and patients alike have found the convenience a positive and the risks to be manageable. This study covers best practice information for providers of telemental health. Some of these best practices will also include resources for providers. Many states are now requiring training in telehealth provision and this course seeks to address those needs. This course includes a second study handout. Please read as there are test questions relating to that handout.
State specific information: This course meets the Florida requirement for alternate biennium continuing education in telehealth.
Objectives:
1. Learners will be able to discuss twelve best practices for providing mental health telehealth services.
2. Learners will be able to implement informed consent specific to telehealth services.
3. Learners will be able to describe emergency protocols for at risk clients using telehealth services.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to improve compliance with mental health telehealth best practices among those providers implementing e-therapy services.

Target Audience: Social workers, marriage and family therapists, licensed professional counselors, mental health counselors, nurses, employee assistance professionals, addiction professionals, behavioral health technicians, and other allied professionals who may work with these populations.

National Board for Certified Counselors (N.B.C.C.) Program Services has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP #: 5978. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Program Services is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
