Description:  This is the required 3 CE Florida laws and rules course for Florida Licensed Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Mental Health Counselors who are renewing their licenses.  This 3-hour class presents the required laws and rules to aid professional counselors in avoiding practice problems, adherence to licensure requirements and protection of clients’ welfare.  The laws and rules for mental health practice legislation and relevant administrative code include F.S. 456, F.S. 491, and F.A.C. 64B4.  This course is required every third biennium.  Current licensees would need to complete the course by the biennium ending 3/31/19. Licensees in their first biennium, (which are exempt from CE’s for renewal) would need to meet the requirement by the biennium ending 3/31/21.  For more information on this requirement, please review Rule 64B4-6.001, Florida Administrative Code.

Objectives:
1.  Participants will be able to describe key parts of and recent changes to F.S. 456 which establishes the regulation of the health professions through the Florida Department of Health.
2.  Participants will be able to describe key parts of and recent changes to F.S. 491, governing the practices of clinical social work, marriage and family therapy, and mental health counselors.
3.  Participants will be able to describe key parts of and recent changes to F.A.C. 64B4, which establishes the Florida Board for LCSW, LMFT, and LMHC, defines its authority, procedures, and activities; and include practice definitions and regulations, and requirements for licensure and supervision.
