Note: This is an approved 2CE course that meets the medical errors content requirements for license renewal for Florida Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Licensed Mental Health Counselors, and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists. The content may meet requirements in other states as well please check our approvals page and your state board. Resources provided are for all fifty states.

Description:   This is a 2 CE medical errors class providing information on root-cause analysis, error reduction and prevention and patient safety in behavioral healthcare practice. The course will include factors that contribute to the occurrence of behavioral healthcare practice errors, how to recognize at-risk situations, protocol to improve patient outcome, reporting responsibilities, and patient safety.  Patient rights and other public education concerns will be addressed.  

Objectives: 
1. Learners will be able to describe the role of root cause analysis in the prevention of errors in mental health practice.
2. Learners will be able to identify processes critical to patient safety in mental health service systems.
Learning Assessment:
1. Participants will be able to list the most common practice errors/situations in behavioral healthcare.
2. Participants will be able to discuss the causes for these practice errors.
3. Participants will be able to identify safeguards for avoiding medication errors with patients on psychotropic medications. 
4. Participants will be able to implement patient education and safety planning.
5. Participants will be able to describe reporting and documentation responsibilities in the event of practice errors.

Hour Two: Using patient outcome information to improve patient care Safeguards, Patient education, and safety planning, reporting and documentation.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to provide an overview of root cause analysis, error prevention, and patient safety practices.  This overview should equip counselors to implement situation analyses to avert practice missteps.

Target Audience:  Social workers, marriage and family therapists, licensed professional counselors, mental health counselors, nurses, employee assistance professionals, addiction professionals, behavioral health technicians, and other allied professionals.

National Board for Certified Counselors (N.B.C.C.) Program Services has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP #: 5978.                  
Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified.           
Program Services is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.

The following states accept our national approvals (NBCC) for social work CE:  Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin.
We are approved in two states for social work (Florida and Alabama).
The following states accept Program Services CE if other state SW boards have approved our CE. (Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan,  Mississippi, New Jersey, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia.)    
These states specify cross-disciplinary CE is acceptable, have no specified requirements/limitations, or that social workers can self- submit after the fact: 
Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Maine, Montana, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Wyoming, New Mexico.
Program Services has not applied for CE for social work in New York, Hawaii, Iowa, and Minnesota.
